chris and i were staring at our bookshelves (see the fun you can have when you are married?) and we counted 14 bibles (17 if you count the one parallel bible with 4 translations).
how many bibles do you have in your house?

If I recall correctly there are about 18. This includes all three “Baby New Testaments” that were given when our children were dedicated. I have five of my own.
Not sure where you’re going with this, but I feel a bit ashamed to admit how many are sitting right here in my home, when there are people in other parts of the world starving for His Word, and risking their very lives to get mere pages of it.
We Americans just don’t have a clue, do we?
kasey and i have 12, not counting all of our 1 year old molly’s baby bibles…those would put us close to 20…then if you count youversion on my mac…
i think we have 5…we have gotten rid of alot of the extra ones we had…btw, i dont feel any guilt or weirdness about that cuz i recycled :) …m.
I think we have 12 or so. “Or so” because I’m too lazy to go dig through boxes in the basement to give you an accurate number.
Sounds like you and someone else were thinking about the same thing…

In my apartment (between my roommate and I), we have seven. I called my Mom though, and at her house, there are 22 in a variety of translations.
And this somehow makes me ashamed to have so many.
none – it’s on line in like a gazillionbillion different versions, including Jobs version
Well, I’m 25, and I would guess maybe six(6). Not a HUGE amount, but enough that I have too many.

Without revealing the lower amount of bibles in my home and my life in particular, what’s the advantage in having more than one?
Convenience? Comparison? Kleptomania?
Douglas if you have more Bibles it’s obvious you are more spiritual than the guy that hes less!!! – or does it just mean that you never use them anyway?
sorry, I’m stuck on the “things you keep quiet about” blog
so, what would happen if everyone gathered up their Bibles and passed them out, and laid them around places like we do those slick, nifty, color coordinated LC invite cards?
or, maybe both – just sayin
@tony lol
I was definitely not “thinking but not saying” that, but I might have given the time.
I love books in general and hang onto them like they’re gold. My suspicion is that most of the ‘extra’ Bibles folks have laying around are the result of gifting or special circumstances each having a sentimental reason to remain.
I like your idea of passing them out. In that way you not only share the Word but have a chance to share the experience.
I don’t know – maybe about 13. And Douglas is right. Many of them were given to me for special events. Like the one my mom gave me when I entered ministry – great to read at home but it’s HUGE so I can’t carry it around!
i think seven between joy and me: three NLT’s (one is a one-year Bible), two NRSV’s, and two NIV’s.
going from memory, so might off by one or two.
I can’t even count them all because some of our Bible’s are still in boxes and have never gotten unpacked (and what’s the point now since we’ll be moving in 14 months). If I had to guesstimate though, I would say somewhere between 20 to 25.
And can I just ask, what do you do with a Bible when you’ve used it so much that it’s falling apart? I feel guilty throwing it away. Any thoughts?
And I sense that this question is going somewhere though Anne……
I did a quick mental and actual count and came up with 25. There’s probably more. I didn’t wander into my 19-year-old’s room. Truth is, I’ve bought a lot of them. Different versions for different spiritual seasons of my life.
When a Bible falls apart, I retire it to my bookshelf or cedar chest.
I think like 4, I should probably read them more ;)
*17 Bibles with OT/NT (two in Spanish)
*2 New Testaments (one in Spanish)
*2 Greek New Testaments
translations: NIV, TNIV, KJV, NKJV, AMP, NASB, NRSV, CEV, NET, NLT, etc.
Why you may ask? I’m in seminary and had a Spanish minor in undergrad…I’m just too lazy to combine all the notes in my Bibles to one!
We have a lot – my wife makes fun of me. But we’ve recently been narrowing and donating to an overseas organization.
Oh, and if you’re going to count parallel translations, you should also count that computer with access to a gazillion online translations (youversion anyone??)
My husband and I have 11 Bibles…if you count the parallel Bible with 4 different translations as individual Bibles! Crazy….
8 offline versions
i’m married to a seminary student. there’s not enough hours in the day to start counting!
let’s estimate by saying we could supply Bibles for one small village. or ten.
Oh wow, I don’t know. I’d say at least 4 per person (4 people). How often do we read them though? hmmm….
There are 3 in my own bedroom, I know that. We also have several in the garage (sad I know) that were my great-grandpa’s. Interesting fact: my great-grandpa was a preacher, he was also illiterate, but he could read the Bible.
Not sure, probably something like 7 or so. I think there are some in the attic. nice
5 – one that I got at 12, another at 16, and another at 42. one my daughter got at 15, and my other daughter got at 13.
I’m not home, but my memory tells me that there are 13 Bibles in the house. My favorite is the one that was laying on the table this morning: the BIBLEMAN BIBLE!
Bibleman rocks.
Three maybe.
funny – this past couple of years, we’ve taken them with us on our mission trips and given them away… but before that, we had counted 26 Bibles in our house.
How did they get there?
8 maybe more!!!
Two. One in English, one in another language. I actually prefer to read the non-english one, especially when listening to a sermon since I’ll get two translations/interpretations at the same time.
Had more, but I currently have 3. One was a gift when I was 16 yrs old after being Baptized. Now I read it as entertainment with my trusty red pencil and underline questionable verses while in the bathroom.
hum.
i don’t think i could even count how many my dad has..
but i have seven myself.. yea.
can you say “PASTORS KID!” haha :]
We have about 17, that includes toddler bibles and up! We even have Immerse, a totally water proof bible. If you’re jealous I can let you borrow it!
between my mom and i? oh a good couple of dozen.
I am in the process of cleaning out my office and packing everything up for our move, so I counted around 10.
3 but if you count my online program then it’s got the be in the range of something like 2,000…i’m all about the ranking in all…it’s how i roll…
One and a half. Gramma and Grampa gave me the New Testament and Psalms for my 12th birthday, and the whole King James version for my high school graduation. Dear old Grams. They were so sweet…
Thank God Mom and Dad weren’t into that stuff.
We have 3, (one I just bought last week for a gift)…but in case you all need a place to put all of your extras…you can kindly send them to us (they are expensive here). We are ALWAYS in need of Bibles to give away. People ask and beg us for them all the time (thus why we only have 2 in our house). You can find our addy on my blog. Thanks guys! Yay. Bibles rock.
yes…used ones are great to give away.
dang it! i meant to count last night.
if this is any indication i think i have 4 at my desk at work….
1 for each family member (4)
plus a ton of translations via youversion.com
I am closely tied to a ministry called CRI, Christian Resources International. They take old Bibles and other books from people’s shelves and deliver them to missionaries, seminaries, pastors, and other Christians oversees who have no Bibles at all. If you are interested in getting rid of any of those Bibles or if you want more info about them, go to http://cribooks.homestead.com/
Luke
10+. Funny thing is i just looked at a new one the other day. I feel kind of guilty that i have these and there are people that don’t. Here in this country & others. That makes my heart sad. I would give all of mine away if i could.
I have four, I believe
My little NIV that travels with me
A KJV
A NIV/Message Parallel
And one in Hebrew
