7 people who’ve influenced me in 2007
January 2, 2008  |  Blogging, Church

there are a kazillion people who’ve influenced me in 2007. i thought i’d point out just a couple.

7. since i start working at lifechurch.tv next week, i could suck up and say bobby and craig have influenced me. and they have. more than i could possibly write on here. but to be honest, everyone i’ve met from life has rocked my world in some way! i can’t wait to finally “meet” some of you face to face!

6. mark cuban. i’ve admired mark since i worked at groceryworks.com a long long long time ago. he also owns my life-long favorite team, the dallas mavericks. i even liked them when they sucked. sucked really badly. if you like learning from really smart people, you should read his blog.

5. terry & robin storch. i know they’re actually included in #7, but if weren’t for them to begin with, #7 would have never happened. i used to make know-it-all remarks on terry’s blog several years ago. he was gracious enough to keep in touch despite my immaturity back then! and i still remember sitting in taco diner in dallas’ west villiage with robin, thinking she was CRAZY for having a “hunch” we’d end up in OKC.

4. mike foster. i became familiar with mike and his crazy ridiculous quest for honesty and authenticity when he co-founded xxxchurch.com many moons ago. both of our lives have gone through some big changes and i’m happy we’ve connected this year. his thoughts inspire me to be a better person.

3. seth godin. who doesn’t love him, really? i had a unique opportunity earlier in the year to glean some wisdom from him and his advice has stuck with me. he has probably been the single most influential person in my professional development over the last five years.

2. you. i talk about you guys to my husband and it’s like you’re a part of our family. even our parents know several of you by name.

1. my husband. seriously. he’s hot. he’s patient. and he cooks. i could not have survived some of the hard trials this year has brought me if it weren’t for him. i love you. and he’s going to start blogging this year…keep an eye out for that!

who’s influenced you lately?

  1. On wonderful….there’s that awesome word again “influence.” Our Associate at church uses it a lot and sitting on the platform, I see the faint looks on faces…okay Anne, honestly you have become a household name (I admire your transparency) and of course, it is just my hubby and I (our kids are grown adults) so someone had to fill that void since we love to read and just absorb every word on MCD. (We’re so glad you care so much about Pastors, PW’s and Church Staffers.) Jerry Falwell was led to the Lord by my father-in-law and of course his death devastated us..that man loved the Lord and people! His wife and kids are totally marvelous people. (I ony have 4; Our own precious, thoughtful kids; our son and our daughter. Loving, loyal, trustworthy, awesome, and they tremendously support us in our profession and will do anything for us. I love the word “rock” …thank you for rocking my world and being so motivating as I lead ladies to keep on keeping on! Since I started reading your blogs, you are #1 influence and we’re asking God to really bless you & your hubby as you work with the great people you mentioned.

  2. I am influenced by several people, the most important is my wife Beth. She’s far more patient with my emotional instability than I would be in her shoes. Beyond that, I will listen to ANYONE who challenges the status quo and desires significance for the Church.

    Happy New Year!

  3. Mark Cuban is really the coolest guy on the planet I think. Working in the media in Memphis, we came down there a couple of years ago to cover the Griz playing the Mavs in the first round of the playoffs. I have never seen an owner ask the out of town media if they had everything they needed.

And when I stopped to just talk to him, he had all the time in the world for me. Even took a picture with me.

As we were leaving, he called me and my reporter by name (meaning he remembered) and told us he would see us in Memphis for the next game.

Sure enough. NExt game, he walked up and said hello.

    Just a genuinely nice guy.

  4. I agree Anne, The Entire Crew at LifeChurch has enriched my life beyond words. I have never met MOST of them personally but I have gained so much. On that note… my home boys and girls at LifeChurch Hendersonville rock the house!

My Hubby, Kids, Family…but mostly God’s Word!
