thanksgiving burritos
November 21, 2007  |  Uncategorized

i am still yet completely befuddled on what i am bringing to my cousin’s house for our thanksgiving meal tomorrow. last night i thought of making thanksgiving burritos. all the thanksgiving classics wrapped up in a tortilla. it couldn’t be that bad, could it?

chris thought so.

as with most people, i probably won’t be blogging too much until next week. we are wii-sitting for some friends who have a dog. and no, i didn’t switch the words “wii” and “dog”… :)

five things i am totally grateful for:

1) gentle, passionate grace
2) my husband (and his ability to cook)
3) amazing friends and family
4) people who are willing to take chances on me, believe in me
5) you

happy thanksgiving!

  1. Have a GREAT one, Anne!

Thanks for your heart, your courage and your transparency! I have enjoyed getting to know you via FB and this blog.

    Blessings to you and Chris.

  2. i am grateful for :

    1) a guy that loves me eventhough he knows all of the dark stuff in me
    2) an adopted church family that pours into me and loves me
    3) amazing friends
    4) you…yes you, Anne.

  3. I’m thankful for:

    1) grace and love, even though i fight it often
    2) friends who love me even though they know the real me
    3) a ten year stage of being single…quite possibly God’s best gift (aside from grace and love) for me and my future spouse.
    4) being called into ministry, even on the hard days.

  4. Okay, I’m thankful for a lot. Personally my favorite sandwich at a local eatery http://www.whichwich.com has a “Thank You Turkey” sandwich. It has all the favorite ingredients: Turkey, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, wrapped up in a tortilla or your choice of other tasty breads. So tell Chris that it is tasty-goodness to wrap up all things thanksgiving.

  5. If you have to watch a house that contains a Wii and a pet of sort, then you are simply Wii-sitting where the Wii is accompanied with a pet inside a house.

  6. I am thankful for:
I Timothy 1:15 (NKJV) “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”

  7. The Thanksgiving burrito is a great idea. My family (okay me) is kinda anti normal Thanksgiving food. We usually have ribs or steak or something strange like that. We will probably be playing some 360 and watching some football over the Thanksgiving break.

  8. Derrick, I might just have to try that sandwich.

  9. I’m doing a Thanksgiving dinner for my house group here in England. They’re all coming over tomorrow and are completely confused about what exactly we’re doing! They keep asking me if they’re supposed to bring gifts(I said yes), and whether sweet potato casserole is sweet or savoury(it’s sweet but not a dessert – really confusing)…

Basically, it should be interesting. Good news is, my friend Jenni is American too – she’s from Texas – and she’s bringing tamales and spicy corn. :o)

I’m going to make everyone trace their hands and make a turkey out of them kindergarten-style!

    Happy Turkey Day!

  10. I am thankful my husband commented on my blog.

  11. i’m thankful for creative people like Anne who just launched my new franchise – t-day burritos, llc

anne – i promise to give you 10% of gross income if you will make them and use your family as our first focus group. you will also have to sign a contract for me to market your and chris’ mug shot for our fitst regional advertising campaign

    i’m thinking like ‘mamasito anne’s t-day burritos’

(BTW-please use flour, not CORN tortillas!!!)

  12. I say yay to Turkey Burritos. Here’s the deal, Q’doba’s has a pulled pork burrito with bbq sauce that’s pretty dang skippy, the next step naturally is turkey and gravy burrito.

It’s worth a shot. I mean, who thought people would go for chicken and bbq on a pizza? Now everyone loves it. I don’t think we should sleep on this.

  13. my thought is if fish tacos (which i finally tried last month and did like) can be so dang popular, turkey burritos should be a shoo-in.

  14. We make taco meat with ground turkey!

If you want to “make” something, bring the cranberry relish. Get a can or two of cranberry jelly (the wiggly ocean spray kind) and throw in some craisens, and chopped pecans. Mix it and it’s ready to serve.

Or fruit salad, a tube of cool whip, a can of fruit cocktail(drained), marshmallows, coconut, pecans, and diced apples or pears.

And if all else fails bring pie from Sam’s…it’s big…it will wow them!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  15. that would be a TUB of cool whip…not TUBE.

  16. I asked my mom to make enchiladas once for thanksgiving when it had been several years between visits. Her enchiladas were a childhood favorite along with deviled eggs, cucumbers with soy sauce, and black olives. I had her prepare that menu for me once. I was so thankful.

  17. okay, I am not sure about the t-day burritos. I admit I am a traditionalist. I did think of having something different this year, like steaks to celebrate our move to Texas…….. that still may be an option if the turkey is not cooked. btw- I am thankful that my dad came down to celebrate with us, I am thankful for my husband, and most of all, God’s mercy.

    Happy thanksgiving!!!!

  18. I am thankful for:

    1. The fact that Canadian Thanksgiving is earlier in the year. I cooked a turkey on the BBQ – yes that is true.
    2. The saving grace of a God that loves, over and over and over again.
    3. Women writers (not that I don’t love the men-I do) that inspire me and push me to believe there is a place for us in the Christian marketplace.
    4. Women like you Anne, you say what you mean and mean what you say.
    5. I may be “Wii-sitting” this weekend as well. And I am so excited “Wii tennis elbow I welcome thee!” :)

Have a great Thanksgiving Anne and the rest of you celebrating!

  19. It’s a US holiday and I’m not an American citizen but I’m thankful anyway.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

I’m thankful for a warm house, a job, food on the table. A man who loves me, a God who cares for me and freedom.

  20. Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, Anne!

  21. so did you make the turkey burrito or give in to tradition?!

  22. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! You could make turkey burritos with lefse. It’s like a tortilla made with potato flour instead and tastes awesome with all the leftovers! Lefse is a traditional Norwegian food my family makes during the holidays, I’ve even found it at specialty markets out here in Arizona too, just an idea!
