will smith kissed me tuesday night.
granted, it was only a big hug and a kiss on the cheek (i am married you know), but it’s not everyday one can say that.
i got an IM from matt (the one who assigns me movie reviews) late last week saying “too bad you have plans tuesday night. you could interview will smith” to which i said “shut up, liar” and he copy and pasted the official announcement that indeed, mr. smith was to be in dallas and doing a red carpet event for his new movie, in pursuit of happyness. we would get to spend a brief moment with will and ask him a question or two about the movie.
so, chris and i rearranged our tuesday night plans and headed out to the cityplace theatre. we were third or so in the press line. after standing (in very uncomfortable shoes i’ll add) for a couple hours, will makes his way down the carpet. matt introduces himself and me (chris is behind me on still camera and joel is video taping), and that is the moment he leaned over the line of celebrity and crossed into the world of press, arms open and planted a big one right smack on my right cheek.
i can’t reveal the question we asked or answer we received, but soon the video podcast containing such interview will be released and i shall post a link to that as soon as it is available. but for such the big “movie star,” that he is, he was a genuinely nice and down-to-earth guy. he didn’t have the slightest bit of arrogance or cockiness about him. he was really a very polite and sweet.
so…there you have it.

Oh my, that was soo worth the ulcer I got waiting in anticipation. I dido Debbie, it’s great to know that he really is a nice guy. That is one thing I totally dig about Will Smith, he seems pretty dang humble.
I will forever be able to say that a person who commented on my blog has been kissed by Will Smith.
One thing about Will Smith I will never forget…
Shootin some hoops outside of school when a couple of guys who were up to no good, started causin trouble in my neighborhood, got in one little fight and my mom got scared, and “your movin to your auntie’s and uncle’s Bel-Air. (Oh I could go on)
last i checked… will smith is just a black guy from philly. nothing holy… or magical. just saying…

A kiss from Will Smith? I’d stand in line for three hours in your uncomfortable shoes for that. I hope you haven’t washed that cheek.
I don’t know you at all, but it’s cool that I can tell my teenage daughters that a blog that I have commented on is written by someone that was kissed by Will Smith this week!
Not fair! I get to interview sweaty athletes and coaches who don’t want to talk to the press, and you get some Fresh. Sweeeeet!
actually i think the fact he is so successful in his movie/music careers, and within 30 seconds of meeting him you know how passionately in love he is with his wife and his kids, and the next 30 seconds you get a vibe of his work ethic, all without the slightest bit of “i’m famous and rich” says there is something magical about him.
So did you get to watch the movie? I’m really looking forward to it. Saw the previews the other night. My wife said she’d wait to see it on DVD because she didn’t want to be crying the whole movie.
we actually didn’t stay for the screening, but will pick up another one before it releases. there were so many screaming crazy fans and will was going to be sitting through the movie, so it would be extremely difficult to focus with all the chaos happening.
the movie does look great…very inspiring.
I can’t wait to see the movie. I put some stuff on my blog about it too. I’m pretty jealous. I’m not a real star-struck kind of guy, but he is one of the few that I’d like to meet.
